Create Hyper-Realistic Special Effects with the New SkinFlex 5 and SC-5

The original SkinFlex was used for SFX in the 70's, including for blockbusters like JAWS!

What is SkinFlex 5?

The new SkinFlex 5 is a soft, stretchy, polyurethane elastomer with a simple 1:1 mix ratio. This soft polyurethane is designed for special effects, training models and realistic skin replications making it perfect for the film and TV industries.

SkinFlex 5 moves and feels like skin even straight out of the mould and offers a work time of 9-10 minutes so you’re not rushing to pigment, mix, or pour!

What makes it stand out? It’s phthalate and mercury free, and fully RoHS and REACH compliant. Plus, it’s easy to pigment and customise to your needs allowing you to add even more realistic markings like freckles or veins!

Where can you use SkinFlex 5?

  • Anatomical modelling and medical training equipment
  • Hyper realistic skin effects for movies and TV
  • Props and special effects
  • Simulated skins
  • Hidden set padding for safer stunt scenes

How can you make SkinFlex even better?

By adding SC-5, which is specifically designed for SkinFlex 5, you can soften the final material. SC-5 is a polyurethane softening agent, that lowers the hardness and increases flexibility of the end result, creating incredibly soft materials. And like SkinFlex 5 it meets safety regulations and is phthalate free

But why soften SkinFlex?

  • Keeps its flexibility, so your props last longer with repeated use
  • Allows for lifelike movement, as it'll bend without cracking
  • Create safer props, such as weapons, without causing injury
  • Gives you control over the final texture and feel

How do you use SC-5?

We don’t recommend adding more than 100% of SC-5 to your total SkinFlex 5 mix. Adding more than this can mess with the materials strength and how well it’ll cure. You might also end up with a tackier surface if you use too much.

Why use a polyurethane over silicone for simulated skins?

The biggest difference between polyurethane and silicone is adhesion. Polyurethane bonds to other materials and they will bond to polyurethane, while silicone is essentially non-stick. SkinFlex 5 will more reliably bond to foams, fabrics, and structural backings, which is critical for layered skin and simulation builds.

In the medical field this is especially important, as it means bandages, tapes and so on will stay in place.
